Marla Mae Bechtel was born July 28, 1947 in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa. She graduated from Alta High School in 1965.
Marla was united in marriage to Dewayne Bechtel on November 20, 1965. Together they had six children: Georgianna, Tim, Connie, Jodi, John and Joleen. Marla worked for 36 years as a C.N.A. at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake. She also worked at the Alta Community School. She loved to help other people, cooking, gardening, watching western movies and shows, racing, baseball and comedy shows.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dewayne; her son, Tim; and her parents, LeRoy and Verlet Herzberg.
She is survived by her children, Georgiana (Scott) Condon of Clare, IA, Connie Bechtel (fiancée Michael Jarrell) of Nashville, TN, Jodi Thevenot of Alta, IA, John (Dawn) Bechtel of Laurens, IA, Joleen (Chad) Smith of Fort Dodge, IA; several grandchildren; special friend, Jim Weiland; two sisters, Ellen Dierenfield of Alta, IA and Nelda Paulson of Spencer, IA; as well as many extended family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta.
