Martha "Lou" Miller

July 8, 1926 — July 19, 2013

Martha “Lou” Clark Miller was born on July 8, 1926 in Maryville, MO to Solon and Alma (Lyle) Clark. She was raised in Maryville, MO and graduated high school there in 1944. She was courted by Leo Miller of Siam, IA. Upon his return from serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps (WWII) the couple was united in marriage on Sept 4, 1949. They eloped to Eureka Springs, AR which remained a special place in their family’s memories. They had two children, Kenneth Clark & Leah Kay. Leah went to be with the Lord early on. Ken currently resides in Odebolt with his wife Kathy.

Lou (if you called her Martha, you would be quickly corrected) and husband Leo lived in many states as Leo worked as a meat cutter for Safeway Grocery Store chain and they were transferred often. Lou worked in many restaurants as a waitress along with assisting Leo in the meat markets in each of the stores he was assigned to. Later the two opened their own locker plant and operated it together for several years.

She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and spent several years on staff at Holstein UMC as parish assistant. Lou’s primary responsibility in that role was to carry the ministry of visitation to church members that were unable to attend worship regularly. Leo & Lou spent the bulk of their life together square dancing. They travelled far and wide to attend upwards to five dances a week. They made many friends and enjoyed putting on exhibitions and dancing on TV.

Lou was preceded in death by her husband Leo; daughter Leah Kay; sister Kathleen Chadwick; sister-in-law Lila Miller; and her parents Solon and Alma (Lyle) Clark.

Those left to cherish her memory are son Ken Miller (Kathy); two granddaughters Carrie Brown (Randy), Coralyn Martin (Josh); seven great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters: Andrew, Jessica, Nathan, Jacob, Zach, Levi, Isaac (all Brown) Gage and Genevieve Martin; brother-in-law Lloyd Miller (Mary) and a host of nieces and nephews.
