Mary Ann Goettsch

Mary Ann Goettsch, age 81, of Holstein, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the Char-Mac Assisted Living of Holstein.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Holstein with the Rev. Doresa K. Collogan officiating.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at a later date.

Mary Ann Goettsch was born October 30, 1936 on her grandparents farm near Holstein, Iowa.  She was the daughter of Freddie and Lillian (Reimers) Goettsch.  Mary Ann attended school in a country one-room schoolhouse, Diamond No. 9 through the 4th grade, then graduated from Holstein High School in 1955.  She often spoke of the fond memories she had playing basketball and making it to the state tournament, getting beaten in the championship game.

Mary Ann worked on the family farm until 1994 when she became a CNA at the Good Samaritan Society in Holstein.  She was a member of the Holstein United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Mary Ann enjoyed going to antique shows and watching sports on television.  A highlight for her was going to the Rose Bowl to watch her favorite team, the Iowa Hawkeyes.  She loved living on her acreage where she kept many animals such as a donkey and exotic chickens.  Mary Ann enjoyed sharing them with her nieces and children of her church.  She will be remembered as a hard worker and someone who was kind to everyone.

She is survived by her brother, Fred and wife Dorothy Goettsch; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Goettsch; nieces, Nanette (Goettsch) and husband Showcat Mir, Stacy and husband Wyatt Hagan, Stephanie and husband Doug Kielan, and Angela McLean; great-nieces and nephews, Matthew, Jacob, Tyler, Andrew and Zachary Hagan, Gianna and Sophia Mir, and Bailey, Tria and Kylee McLean.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Larry Dean Goettsch.
