Mary Elizabeth Hodges was born on October 31, 1943 in Onawa, Iowa to William and Bertha (Jenks) Dugdale. She helped with the family farming at a young age. She was united in marriage to Othal Hodges on July 5, 1959 in Pisgah, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Mischelle, Tim, Teresa and Lenore. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary was a member of the Galva United Methodist Church. Her church family was very important to her. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting many items for others. She would make afghans, hats, mittens, scarves, dishcloths, towels, doilies, crosses for new confirmands and prayer shawls for new babies baptized into the United Methodist Church. She always gave a handcrafted afghan to her family members for graduations, weddings and anniversaries. Mary made many hats and mittens that were placed on the mitten tree at the Galva United Methodist Church and later donated to the Goodwill shoe/mitten party in Sioux City.
Mary is survived by her husband, Othal of Galva, IA; children, Mischelle (Cliff) Downing, Tim Hodges, Teresa (Mark) Hunt, and Lenore (Boyd) Meyer; nine grandchildren, Doug Cline, Krystle (Eric) James, Melissa Hunt, Jamee (Ben) Dittmer, Rachel Hunt, Dakota Hunt, Whitney Gebers, Josey Gebers and Brady Meyer; three great-grandchildren, Christian Waldemar, Devin and Jaylynn Dittmer; and several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Billy; and her mother and father-in-law.
