Mary Agnes (Mcguire) Venrick

Mary Agnes (McGuire) Venrick, age 92, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Holstein, Okoboji and Longmont, CO passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the Dougherty Hospice House of Sioux Falls.  A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 03, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church of Holstein with the Fr. Jeff Schleisman officiating.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service starting at 9:30 AM at the church.  Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery of Holstein. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary was born July 20, 1926 in Holstein, IA to Florence and Hugh McGuire. She graduated from Mary Manse College in Toledo, OH and started her professional career caring for others at the County Welfare Department in Cherokee, IA. Mary went on to become a school teacher with stops in Omaha, Storm Lake and Denver before settling down in Longmont, CO where she taught at St. John the Baptist and Longmont Public Schools. She retired in 1988. A teacher and friend to all, she was loved by her students. Many life lessons were discussed during conversations at the kitchen table with her four boys and their friends. After retirement she relocated to Okoboji, IA and later to Trail Ridge Senior Living in Sioux Falls, SD.

A proud Irish Catholic, Mary cherished being included in a good time, a friendly game of bridge and was equally comfortable with either rosary beads or a cold Coors Light in her hands.

Mary is survived by her four beloved boys Jim (Kristie) Venrick, Longmont, CO; John (M’Linda) Venrick, Mead, CO; Steve (Diane) Venrick, Buckeye, AZ; and Hugh (RuthAnn) Venrick, Sioux Falls, SD; her brother Jim McGuire, Holstein, IA and brother-in-law, Pat Forristal, Holstein, IA. Mary has 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way, along with many nieces and nephews who were so special to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Pat McGuire and sister Celia Forristal.
