Merlin G. Gebers, age 93, of Holstein, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center of Cherokee. A private immediate family graveside service will be held at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein with the Pastor Bob Lewis officiating. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein. There will be no visitation.
Merlin G. Gebers was born February 10, 1927 to John and Leona (Arp) Gebers. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein. He attended the Lone Star School in rural Ida County.
On December 29, 1952 he married Elva Frahm and farmed south of Holstein until buying their farm east of Holstein. That farm became a Century Farm in 2008 at the Iowa State Fair. That day was a very proud day for Merlin and Elva.
Another big event was when his nephew John of Oregon found the Gebers family through Ancestry.com. It had been about 59 years since he had been with the family. What a great family reunion we had on Merlin’s farm in 2019.
Merlin had a passion for all of his John Deere tractors. He raised cattle, hogs, chicken and grain. Merlin also enjoyed having coffee with the other men in Holstein, playing cards, eating out especially being with his family.
He will forever be remembered by his daughter Karen and her husband Dean Werner of Holstein, IA; grandson, Matt Werner and his wife Molly, along with their girls, McKenzie and Jeannie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elva in 2017; four brothers, Don, Willard, Wayne and Darrell.
