Mildred June Sands was born April 3, 1928 to L.J. and Margaret (Foster) Knudsen. She was born and raised in Correctionville and attended school there. June was united in marriage to Arnold E. Sands on February 11, 1946. After he returned from serving in WWII, they lived in Correctionville until 1950 when they moved to Holstein for nine months. They moved back to Correctionville and lived out the rest of their lives. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She worked as a nurse’s aide for 18 years at Sunrise Manor in Sioux City, IA, retiring to care for her mother for 13 years. Her interests included spending time with her family, playing cards and putting together puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Michael Sands; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Marvin Peekenschneider; brother, L.J. Knudsen Jr.; and her parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sands. Survivors include her husband, Arnold Sands of Correctionville, IA; daughter, Norma Benson and her husband, Marvin of Pierson, IA; son, Duane Sands and his wife, Diane of San Diego, CA; daughter, Donna Reiss of Holstein, IA; son, Larry Sands of Correctionville, IA; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
