Nina S. Johnson was born March 12, 1914 in Atlantic, Iowa to Dan and Erma (Matthews) Jorgensen. Nina attended the country school in Brayton, Iowa. After her school years, she was married and her daughter, Ruby was born. Nina later married Dave Johnson and lived in the Alta area from 1936 until moving to Otsego Place in Storm Lake in April 2008. She was a long-time member of Alta’s Trinity Lutheran Church. In 1970, she retired from her career as a nurse’s aid in the Alta Hospital in order to care for her husband after he suffered a stroke. Nina has always had a tremendously strong faith in the Lord, which carried her through her life with such a positive outlook that she has been an inspiration to many who knew her. She loved music, reading, sewing, quilting and her family and friends. Nina was a kind, gentle, loving, strong willed person who was always willing to help others whenever she could. She took joy in being there for others, but never wanted any accolades for her service. She always felt that her family knew, and that was what mattered to her, so no trumpets will be blown for the good she did in the world-if you knew her then you will already know. Nina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David V. Johnson (4/12/76); her son, David V. Johnson Jr. (8/11/07); three brothers, Carl, Daniel and James Harold, (who died when he was only 10 days old after being born with a bad heart); three sisters,Betty Knight, Ethel Kopaska and Delma Palladino; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She will be lovingly remembered by those she leaves behind including, her daughter-in-law, Connie of Norman, OK; four grandchildren, LaDonna (Jeff) Brummer of Storm Lake, IA, Robin Hall of Simi Valley, CA, Todd (Jan) Johnson of San Clemente, CA and Chadd Johnson of Simi Valley, CA; ten great-grandchilden, Amanda (Jeremy) Betts, Stephanie Brummer, Ryan, Brittany and Tyler Hall, Peyton, Dane and Callan Johnson, Megan and Logan Johnson; three great-great-grandchildren, Caden Brummer, Chloe and Eli Betts; and other extended family and friends.
