Patricia A. Wall

Patricia A. Wall, age 79, of Alta, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2013 after a brief illness and a long, wonderful journey through life. Pat was the mother of Cheryl Holm (Marshfield, WI), Steve Wall (Ankeny, IA), Brian Wall (Manning, IA), and Michael Wall (Altoona, IA); mother-in-law to Dave, Colette, Denise, and Lori; and the grandma of Nathan, Jesse, Becca, Ryan, Erik, Toby and Mathias. She was the sister of Bill Rush, Bob Rush, Jean Smith (Blakely, GA), Paul Rush, Charlene Anderson (Storm Lake, IA); the daughter of Clarence and Esther Rush and child of God. Pat was born January 3, 1934, grew up in Hawarden, Iowa; attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls; married Jim Wall in 1957, and was a longtime resident of Alta, Iowa. Pat’s life revolved around her family, her friends and her faith. She worked for several years in the Alta School system, but her main title in life was Mom. She and Jim taught their children the value of hard work, instilled in them the importance of family and modeled the true meaning of devotion “in sickness and health” until Jim’s death in 1993. Pat loved nothing more than to brag about her kids and grandkids, attend their school and athletic events, make them chocolate chip cookies or beat them in a game of ping-pong. Pat also loved to golf, bowl, play cards, travel and go out for coffee. She loved golf enough to occasionally play alone, but she drew the most joy from these activities when she could share them with her precious friends. She will be remembered as a fierce competitor, an avid Iowa State fan and a generous neighbor and friend. As a member of the United Methodist Church in Alta, Pat enjoyed her involvement in bell choir, UMW, serving as church board secretary, and participating in Bible studies. The worn pages of her Bible and her prayers for her family and friends spoke of her love for God and her belief in His ever-present help in her life. She hopes you know that she is celebrating with Him now.
