Patrick L. Forristal, age 89, of Holstein, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein with his devoted daughter and caregiver Ann at his side. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 10:30 AM at the Our Lady of Good Counsel Church of Holstein with the Fr. Daniel J. Rupp officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Calvary Cemetery of Holstein. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM with a scriptural prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.
Patrick L. Forristal was born on November 10, 1932 to John Thomas and Della (Griffiths) Forristal in Cornlea, Nebraska. Pat grew up in Walthill, Nebraska where he excelled in athletics especially baseball and track. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1954. After his military service he attended Creighton University where he met and fell in love with Celia A. McGuire. They were married on April 7, 1956 in Holstein, Iowa. They made their home in Holstein and adopted four children: Matthew, Ann, Mary Brigid, and John.
Pat worked with his brother-in-law, Jim McGuire at McGuire Auction Company selling farmland, houses, and businesses. He took pride in his career as an auctioneer and realtor. He was instrumental in the development of the Holstein Country Club and an ardent promoter of Holstein. He was very proud of his adopted hometown. Pat was a warm and welcoming man who made everyone feel special. He was quick witted and was known for his one-liners. He was proud of his Irish heritage, his Catholic faith, Nebraska Cornhusker football, Creighton Bluejay basketball and baseball, and his children. He enjoyed golf, cribbage, tennis, winter trips with Celia, his Crazy 8 group, and his many friends.
He is survived by his children Matthew (Mary) Forristal, Ann E. Forristal, Mary Brigid Seshasayee, John T. (Jennifer) Forristal; his grandchildren Bridget Ann Johnson, Nathan Garcia, Payton Garcia, John Forristal, Sarah Greteman, Genevieve Garcia, Emily Woodke, Matthew Forristal, Robert Forristal, and Elizabeth Forristal; his 8 great grandchildren; his brother John T. Forristal; and many nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his wife Celia in 2015, his parents, his siblings Rose Steineke, James Forristal, Mary Guinan, and Kathy Sailors. The family requests that in lieu of flowers any memorials be directed to Catholic Charities of Sioux City or the charity of your choice.
