Paul Edgar Kistenmacher

Paul E. Kistenmacher, age 83, of Galva, passed away on Wednesday, December 09, 2020 at his home of Galva.  A private family graveside will be held at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery of Galva with the Rev. Paul D. Egger officiating.  Burial will be at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery of Galva.  A visitation with no family present will be held on Friday, December 11, 2020 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Galva.

Paul Edgar Kistenmacher was born May 17, 1937 to Harry and Blondina (Schmidt) Kistenmacher on a farm west of Holstein.  At the age of five, they moved to Galva and he resided there until his passing.  Paul attended Galva Community School graduated with the class of 1954.  His passions in life were faith, family and farming.

Paul was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein.  He later joined St. John’s Lutheran Church of Galva where he held many different offices and was a member of the church dartball team for many years.

Paul married Lois Shever on August 14, 1960.  The couple was blessed with four children, thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Paul enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in their many activities through the years.

Paul was engaged in farming and feeding cattle for 60 years.  He especially loved spring planting and fall harvest and was so proud to have finished fall harvest in 2020.  He served on the Galva Union Elevator Board as well as the Galva and Galva-Holstein School Boards.

Paul was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan since he was a young boy, and was able to attend the 2006 World Series Championship game.  He loved traveling, especially to the Grand Tetons where he and Lois celebrated their 50th anniversary with family.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois; four children, Jacqueline (Steve) Meyer of Holstein, IA, David (Elizabeth) Kistenmacher of Holstein, IA, Drew Kistenmacher of Galva, IA, and Lisa (Mike) Teter of Claremore, OK; thirteen grandchildren, Meagan (Chad) Foresman, Lauren Meyer, Marc (Rachel) Meyer, Beth Meyer, Heidi (Eric) Lindstad, Gretchen Kistenmacher, Caleb Kistenmacher, Tiffany (Dan) Hanson; Amanda (Nick) Currie, Hayley (Ben) Frieden, Sydney Kistenmacher, Lindsey (Bryce) Hurst and Jason Teter and eight great-grandchildren, Gage and Luke Foresman, Ingrid Lindstad, Odin, Ian and Isabella Hanson and Cade and Elsie Currie.  He is also survived by one sister, Mary (Kenneth) Radke; brother-in-law, Delbert (Mary) Shever; sisters-in-law, Dolores Underwood and Janice Messner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Blondina Kistenmacher; grandchildren, Hope Teter, Peter Kistenmacher; great-granddaughter, Grace Foresman; brother, Donald Kistenmacher; parents-in-law, Albert and Mabel Shever and brothers-in-law, Carl Underwood and Richard Messner.
