Phyllis was born Oct. 23, 1929 in Holstein, the daughter of Vernie and Opal (Sheeler) Bochmann and the oldest of ten children. She attended school and graduated from Holstein High School in 1947 and attended community college in California and nursing school in Chicago.
Phyllis married Clifford Wiese on June 28, 1950 in Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple farmed northwest of Holstein on the Wiese family farm, and in 1994, they moved to Holstein.
In 1953, they welcomed their first daughter, Janice. In 1955, a second daughter, Jean, joined their family. Phyllis volunteered as a local Girl Scout leader and a girls 4-H club leader while her daughters were growing up. The family enjoyed yearly driving and camping vacations throughout the western U.S., always stopping in the Black Hills to visit Phyllis’ family who lived there. Phyllis and Cliff also enjoyed travel to Alaska.
Phyllis was a homemaker and also worked in Holstein at Kerslake Sundries and Annie Oakley’s Cafe. She enjoyed letter writing, visiting, scrapbooking, gardening and reading. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter Janice; three brothers, Vernie J., Eugene and Larry; and three sisters, Eloyis Sterk, Doris Lyons and Joyleen Still.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean Hiller and husband Tom of Urbandale; son-in-law, Dave Wright of Sioux City; grandson, John Wright of Sioux City; and special friends, Kate Kofmehl and the Tom Kofmehl family of Holstein. She is also survived by one sister, Eunice Holland of Modesto, California; two brothers, Harold Bochmann of Mapleton, Iowa and Dennis Bochmann of Oakdale, California; their spouses and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
