Raymon was born December 12, 1929, at Cushing to Henry and Emma (Volkert) Grell. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cushing. When his family moved to the Holstein area in 1943, he became a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein, serving a number of years as an elder on the church council. He attended school in Cushing and Holstein, graduating from Holstein High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army from March 1953 until March 1955, during the Korean Conflict.
Raymon was united in marriage to Janice Ann Reineking at Varina, Iowa, on November 25, 1956. To this union two sons, Thomas Raymon and Ronald Dean, were born.
Raymon loved the land and devoted his entire life to farming the family farm just west of Holstein, continuing to live on the farm following his retirement in 1995.
Raymon was also a member of the Holstein American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Edna Volkert and Faye Grell, and a brother Vernon (Pete) Grell.
Raymon is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jan; two sons, Tom and his wife, Robin, of Ida Grove, and Ron and his wife, Heidi, of Maple Grove, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Evan Grell of Marcus and his fiancé, Kaylee Spotts of Ida Grove, Ben Grell of Los Angeles, California, Annie Grell of Maple Grove, Minnesota, and Nathan Grell of Ida Grove; a brother, Robert Grell of Galva; a sister, Wilma Lasher of Fort Dodge and a sister-in-law, Donna Grell of Sioux City.
