Raymond E. Clause, age 85, of Moville, passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at the AbiliT Senior Living of Lawton. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Moville with Rev. Harold E. Werley officiating. Burial will be held at the Arlington Cemetery of Moville. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Moville with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. by the Masonic Trial Lodge #532 of Moville. A live-steaming of the service will be provided through the funeral home website on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church of Moville.
Raymond Edward Clause was born February 2, 1936 in Sioux City, Iowa to Brady C. and Pearl (Towers) Clause. As a teen, he lived with foster parents Lewis and Gladys Foster who later adopted him. Ray graduated from Moville High School in 1954 then earned a B.S. in Business from Morningside College in 1958.
He was united in marriage to Irene Flewelling on August 17, 1957 at the Federated Church of Moville. To this union three children were born, Susan, David and Karen.
Ray’s career included working at Sioux City Iron Company as a controller and was an office manager at the Sioux City Scottish Rite. In addition to his day job, he was the secretary for the Masonic Charitable Education. He was a past Master and Secretary for the Trial Lodge #532 of Moville and a member of the Scottish Rite of Sioux City. He served on the board at the Meadows Country Club, was President of the Moville Jaycees and was a secretary for the Woodbury Central School Board. Ray was a member of the United Methodist Church where he served on the board and was the chairman of the Pastor Parish Committee. He was recognized for his volunteering efforts by earning Grand Master of Masons for Iowa in 1998-1999, was a Worthy Patron for Eastern Star in 1972, and earned Grand Treasurer of Masons for Iowa in 1975-1976. He and Irene were also awarded the Parents of the Year at Morningside College in 1984. In his free time Ray loved spending time with his family, golfing, bowling, watching sports, square dancing, gardening, camping, going on cruises and boating. He dearly loved his cats and playing cribbage.
He is survived by his loving wife, Irene of Moville, IA; children, Susan (Kevin) Black of Mankato, MN, David (Carolyn) Clause of Mankato, MN and Karen (Tracy) Michels of Northfield, MN; grandchildren, Alyssa Black of Elk River, MN, Breanna Black of Elk River, MN, Garrett (Caroline) Clause of St. Peter, MN, Cameron (Holly) Clause of Grimes, IA, Caitlin (Tyler) Substad of Eagle Lake, MN; Austin Michels of Northfield, MN and Mikayla Michels of Northfield, MN; and one great-grandchild, Lucy Clause of St. Peter, MN. He is also survived by sister, Betty (Larry) Epling of Moville, IA and brothers, Bud (Eilene) Foster of Moville, IA and Jack (Marcy) of Moville, IA and many nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; adoptive parents; brother, Marvin Clause and sister, Margaret Harrison.
