Richard “Dick” Lorenzen, age 78, of Holstein, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 03, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church of Holstein with the Rev. Doresa K. Collogan officiating. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 02, 2018 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.
Richard C. Lorenzen was born March 9, 1939 to Clarence and Annie (Jackes) Lorenzen in Sioux City, Iowa. He was raised in Holstein, Iowa and graduated from Holstein High School in 1957. After high school he enlisted in the Army and served from 1961-1964.
Dick was united in marriage to Beverly Warburton on June 2, 1962 in Washta, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Michael and Kristi.
Dick was a lifetime farmer in the Holstein area. The family lived on the farm until retirement when he and Bev moved to town. He enjoyed watching college basketball, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and Kentucky Wildcats. He also liked to garden, play cards and read Westerns. It always brightened his day to spend time with his grandsons and their families.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly of Holstein; children, Michael (Annette) Lorenzen of Missouri Valley, IA and Kristi (Travis) Brotherson of Holstein; grandchildren, Devin (Ashley) Conover, Derek Conover and special friend Liz Wulf, John (Amanda) Lorenzen, Nate (Felecia) Lorenzen and Kyle Lorenzen and special friend Brooke Kroeger; great-grandchildren, Maya, Lyndsey, Addison, Noah, Easton and Rory Mae.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Charles and Evelyn (Schuett) Warburton; and brother-in-law, Robert Warburton.
