Ricky Lee Schmidt was born on July 19, 1954 to Alvina and Willard Schmidt in Storm Lake, Iowa. Rick was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, where he was a lifetime member. He went to grade school until 8th grade at St. John Lutheran School in Hanover, and then graduated from Alta High School in 1972, where he was a member of FFA.
After high school Rick worked at HyGrade, but his biggest love was farming. He spent his lifetime farming with his father and enjoyed harvest time especially. Along with farming, he helped tile for Paul Koth at Koth Construction for several years. His brother Ryan joined him in farming in 1995 when his father retired. The brothers farmed together until the present. Rick enjoyed cheering on Dale Ernhardt Jr. while watching NASCAR each racing Sunday.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alvina.
Survivors include his father, Willard Schmidt of Alta; sisters, Janet (Tim) Black of Sioux City, Iowa and Brenda (Dan) Anderson of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother, Ryan (Carrie) Schmidt of Alta, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation:
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta.
Funeral:
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the St. John Lutheran Church of rural Alta (Hanover) with the Rev. John H. Schmidt officiating.
Burial:
Burial will be at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery of rural Alta (Hanover).
