Bob was born December 29, 1934 in Ocheyedan, Iowa to George and Molly (Wassman) Ostermann. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Ocheyedan High School. He married Eileen Else on September 22, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grant Township, Ida Grove, Iowa.
Bob worked construction after graduating from high school. In 1960 he joined IBEW Electrical Workers Union Local 231. He worked 35 years on different jobs, mostly commercial and sub-stations. He was proud to receive his 50-year pin with the union. He also drove truck for 12 years. He retired in November of 1994 due to an accident.
Bob was a 30-year member of the Holstein Fire Department. He enjoyed yard work, their garden, and spending several months during the winter in Mesa, AZ. He also looked forward to having coffee with the guys and being with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dennis Ostermann; sister, Lorna Jean “Susie” Roth; and two infant sisters.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eileen of Holstein; son, Russ (Linette) Ostermann of Sioux Falls, SD; daughters, Barb (Jerry Ulberg) Ostermann of Wood Dale, IL, and Peggy (Dave) Martin of Steamboat Springs, CO; four grandsons, Beau (Lisa) Ostermann of Sioux Falls, SD, Elliott Ostermann of the U.S. Army in Seoul, S. Korea, Nicholas and Zachary Martin of Steamboat Springs, CO; one great-grandson, Will Ostermann; brothers, Wally Ostermann of Spirit Lake, IA, Vern (Vi) Ostermann of Mesa, AZ, Paul (Joan) Ostermann of Beatrice, NE, Merv (Roz) Ostermann of Mesa, AZ; sister, Doris (Bud) Boettcher of Alta, IA; and sister-in-law, Maxine Gronau of Denison, IA.
