Roberta Mae Stahl was born on June 15, 1927, in Belden, Nebraska, to Robert and Gertrude (Griggs) Waller. She graduated from Belden High School in 1944 and taught in one-room rural schools for two years before working as a telephone operator in Nebraska and California. On September 19, 1948, she married Roland Stahl at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Carroll, Nebraska. They farmed in Wayne County, Nebraska, until moving in 1964 to a farm north of Galva, Iowa, where they lived until retiring in 1989 and moving to Main Street of Galva. Roberta was a valuable farmer’s wife, helping with fieldwork and livestock while also being a homemaker.
Roberta loved God, her family, being an American, giving hugs, music, working in her garden, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, reading, doing puzzles and playing games. Roberta served as an organist for years at the Galva Methodist Church. She was active in United Methodist Women and American Legion Auxiliary. Roberta volunteered as a 4-H leader and with the Ida County American Cancer Society.
Roberta is survived by three daughters, Rolene (Tom) Beauvais of Sioux City, Roxanne (Steve) Hiatt of Waynesville, Ohio, and Rochelle Thies of Galva; her five grandchildren, Matt (Rhonda) Hiatt, Melinda (Tyler) Parson, Brandon Hiatt, Dallas (Kelly) Thies, and Brian Beauvais; and great-grandchildren, Silas and Deacon Parson, and Lauren Hiatt. Survivors also include her brother, Norval (Cindy) Waller; sisters-in-law, Betty Waller and Evelyn Stahl; plus many nieces and nephews.
