Rozella “Rosie” C. Bauman, age 96, of Holstein, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center of Cherokee. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 04, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein with Jim Kistenmacher officiating. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 03, 2019 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.
Rozella “Rosie” Clara Bauman was born August 15, 1922 to William and Hulda (Kistenmacher) Endrulat in Holstein, IA. She graduated from Holstein High School and later taught country school after receiving her teaching certificate from Buena Vista College.
Rosie was united in marriage to John William Glennard Bauman on January 31, 1942. During World War II she inspected machine guns and helped make rubber lifeboats. The couple made their way back to Holstein and made their home on a farm in Holstein. Rosie enjoyed being a farm wife and mother to their five children. She also owned Jacks Place, a restaurant and bar in Holstein and worked at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed embroidery, reading, fishing, watching baseball and playing cards. Rosie loved dancing. She also found joy in sending her family and friends cards and letters. Rosie was famous for her rye bread and she loved sharing it with her family.
Rosie is survived by her children, Bob (Vicki) Bauman, Karen (Lee) LeWon, Terry (Sandy) Bauman, Betty (late Larson) Meyer, John (Phyllis) Bauman; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers and sisters; son-in-law, Larson; grandson, Aaron Bauman; and many other extended family and friends.
