Scott James Albers

Scott J. Albers, age 62, of Holstein, formerly of Battle Creek, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center of Omaha, NE.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 09, 2025 at 10:30 AM at the St. Paul Lutheran Church (Midway) of rural Battle Creek with the Rev. Marty Davis officiating.  Burial will be at the St. Paul Cemetery (Midway) of rural Battle Creek.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 08, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.

Scott James Albers was born on July 8, 1962 in Battle Creek, Iowa to Norman and Marlene (Feddersen) Albers.  He graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1980 where he participated in basketball and baseball all four years.  It wasn’t until his senior year that he decided to give football and track a try, where he found he excelled at running.  He was very proud of the fact that he broke the school record in the mile the very first time he ever ran it.  He also made it to state in the two mile.

After high school, Scott attended National College in Rapid City, SD for two years. After graduating he worked at Royal Travel in Sioux City, IA as a travel agent. He then decided to go back to college and obtained his degree in business and finance from the University of South Dakota.  He then embarked on a 26 year career at Security National Bank in Sioux City.  Scott worked in various departments throughout his career, starting as a financial service representative, moving to dealer service representative and then personal banker.  In 2002 he was promoted to credit review manager and in 2009 he became a retail and compliance officer.  In 2012 he was promoted to Assistant Vice President of Lending at the Mapleton, IA branch.  He held that position until 2016 when he decided to leave banking and started a new career as the club manager at the Holstein Country Club.  His position which was intended to be for one year, quickly turned into five years before he stepped down as manager but then continued to work part time.

On May 26, 1990 Scott was united in marriage to Deborah Donahue. They later parted ways. On April 13, 2002 he was united in marriage to Lorna Jepsen where he welcomed her two girls, Jackie and Kelly into his home. The couple later parted ways.

Scott loved playing golf, hunting and jumping into his car to go on road trips in Iowa and surrounding states, often on a whim. He knew the highways and byways and state parks of Iowa like the back of his hand.  He especially loved going to the Loess Hills, and if he could convince his best friend Butch to tag along, well, that made it even better.

Scott had a big heart and liked to help out friends whenever he could.  Whether it be driving them to their appointments or making a trip across Iowa to pick up a cat for a friend.  On one of his many excursions to the Loess Hills he came across an old cemetery where the gravesite of a young woman was overgrown with weeds.  He felt so bad for her that he cleaned up her gravesite, because that’s the kind of guy he was.  Scott enjoyed keeping up with his niece and nephew’s endeavors, whether it be their sporting events or where they were working and how their jobs were going. He was an Iowa Hawkeye fan, disliked the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and was fond of letting his Cornhusker fan sister know about that every chance he got.  The last football game between the Hawkeyes and Huskers was a lost bet for her, much to his delight.

Scott is survived by his mother, Marlene of Battle Creek, IA; sister, Ann (Greg) Carr of Allen, NE; brother, Grant (Michelle) Albers of Sioux Falls, SD; nephew, Noah Carr; niece, Jordyn Carr; nephew, Zachary Kotalik and nephew, Alex Smith; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by extended family,  Jackie (Matthew) Wittrock and their children, Payton, Quinton, Irelyn and Edyn; Kelly Galvin and her children, Aubree and Braxton.

He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Albers; maternal grandparents, Lester and Maxine Feddersen and paternal grandparents, Emil and Rosina Albers.
