Shirley Jean Mayberry Marsh was born on August 3, 1924 in Neola, Iowa to John Charles Mayberry and Blanche Mae Best. Shirley spent childhood summers with her Aunt Ollie and Uncle Clearance Pellett in Atlantic, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Sac City and was a member of the school choir. She attended Buena Vista University for two years obtaining her teaching certificate. She was a member of the Delta Phi Beta sorority, participated in the choir, drama, powder puff football and was homecoming princess her freshman year. She completed her 4 year degree at Fairfield College Extension in Denison, Iowa.
She worked as an elementary teacher at Early, Mapleton, and Odebolt Iowa; and taught third grade and Kindergarten at Holstein, Iowa for years. She taught school for 27 years. Shirley was active in several community, church and civic events for children including serving as leader for the Merry Maidens 4 H club in Charter Oak, Iowa. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and served as Grand Matron. She was an accomplished seamstress, crafter, and cook; and an avid antique and doll collector.
Shirley is survived by three daughters, Shirleen Kay Roach of St. Paul, MN, Lorrie Lea Marsh of San Diego, CA and Sara Jean Kreutz of Holstein, IA; one son Hunter Abraham Marsh of Sioux City, IA; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Daryl Lynn Mayberry and Clifford Boyd Mayberry both of Columbia, MO; and one sister-in law, Barb Mayberry of Pocahontas, IA.
She is preceded in by her parents; her husband, Lee Marsh; three brothers Quentin Valentine Mayberry, Vincent Darwin Mayberry, Elwood John Mayberry and two sisters Shelia Joanne Weatherstone and LaVonne Mae Beeks.
