Thomas P. Umbach, age 69, of Anthon, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at his home of Anthon.  A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Anthon with the Msgr. R. Mark Duchaine officiating.  Burial will be at the Mount Saint Joseph’s Cemetery of Anthon.  A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2019 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00 PM followed by a prayer service at the church.

Thomas P. Umbach was born July 17, 1950 to Marvin “Pork” and Evelyn (White) Umbach. A lifelong resident of Anthon, Iowa, Tom attended Catholic school in Anthon and graduated from Anthon-Oto High School in 1968.

Tom was united in marriage to Janice Elaine Hamann on February 14, 1975 in Elk Point, SD.  Together they raised seven children.

Tom worked in the grocery industry with his parents, then worked various jobs in the community with Terra, Pete Collins and in the home construction industry.  In 1985 he started in the feed and seed business where he worked the remaining years of his life.

He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, a member of the Anthon Fire and Rescue squad where he served as chief for a short time, as well as the ambulance crew.  He belonged to the Sioux Valley Sports Club, Anthon Golf Course and served on the Anthon School Board.  He enjoyed hunting, golfing, drag racing, was a game show enthusiast and was an accomplished carpenter.  He enjoyed watching sports on television, especially his beloved Chicago Cubs.  Tom was fluent in sarcasm and had perfected the eye roll.

He is survived by his children, Randy (Abby) Taylor of St. Paul, MN, Suzi Taylor of Anthon, IA, Tiffany (Bill) Fundermann of Creston, IA, Jenifer Umbach of Chicago, IL, Tony (Allison) Umbach of Anthon, IA, Lincoln Umbach (special friend, Alison Seuntjens) of Anthon, IA and Mike (Lindsey) Umbach of Anthon, IA; 13 grandchildren and two on the way, Mason, Grant, Shayla, Diedrich, Danielle, Jayden, Gavyn, Scates, Keegan, Sydney, Carson, Josie and Brock.  He is also survived by siblings, Janice (Gary) Adkins of Oto, IA, Carla Handke of Anthon, IA, Ed (Christa) Umbach of Homeland, CA, brother-in-law, Wayne Fundermann of Anthon, IA, Marilyn (Steve) Horton of Sioux City, IA, Sheila (Paul) Lansink of Anthon, IA, and Becky (Todd) Verschoor of Anthon, IA; brother-in-law, Byron (Marcia) Petersen of Mapleton, IA and sister-in-law, Rhonda (John) Boddicker of Platte City, MO.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Umbach; his parents, Marvin and Evelyn Umbach; parents-in-law, Roberta Petersen, Alfred Hamann and Marvin Petersen; sister, Diane Fundermann and daughter-in-law, Billie (Wink) Umbach.
