Vance E. Schubert, age 87, of Ida Grove, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2020 at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove. A private family graveside service will be held at the Galva Township East Cemetery of Galva with the Rev. Paul D. Egger officiating. Burial will be at the Galva Township East Cemetery of Galva. There will be no visitation.
Vance Eugene Schubert was born January 13, 1933 on a farm outside of Ida Grove, Iowa, the son of Reuben and Dellav (Morrice) Schubert. He graduated from Galva High School in 1950.
Vance was united in marriage to Betty Rusch on April 6, 1951 in Galva, Iowa. He was a lifelong farmer, retiring after harvesting his 50th crop in 2014. Vance and Betty moved to Ida Grove in 1997 after farming in Galva all of his life.
Vance was a dedicated member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galva where he attended weekly Bible study. Vance loved the earth, soil and growing things. He always kept up with current events, especially politics. He was a proud Democrat. Vance enjoyed traveling, sports, and lively conversations. Vance was a generous donor to multiple charities. He will be remembered for his wonderful smile and his sense of humor.
Vance is survived by his children, Steve Schubert of Pensacola, FL, Vicky (Rusty) Olson of Columbia, MO and Larry and his wife of Russellville, MO; two grandsons; and two great-granddaughters. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Ramona (Beryl) Schubert of Ida Grove, IA; and his favorite niece, Bonnie (Dan) Ellis of Correctionville, IA.
Vance was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 2004; parents, Reuben and Dellav Schubert; brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Vernie; and brother, Beryl Schubert.
