Vernie R. Schubert

Vernadine “Vernie” Schubert was born to Reinhold and Melvina (Bollmeyer) Bottjen on June 20, 1928 in Anthon, Iowa. When she was two, her family moved to a farm near Ida Grove, where she lived until her father passed away. She married Duane Schubert on February 12, 1946 at the Ida Grove Lutheran parsonage. To this union three children were born, Bonnie, Connie and Roger. The couple farmed in the Galva area until retiring and moving to Holstein in 1984. Upon moving to Holstein, they joined the St. Paul Lutheran Church. Vernie was active in church, enjoyed dancing, golfing, playing cards, baking for others and traveling. She loved her family and her two great-grandchildren were very special to her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband Duane of 67 years; her two children who died in infancy, Connie and Roger Schubert; a son-in-law, Tom Roark; a brother, Virgil Bottjen; and a sister-in-law, Betty Schubert. Those left to cherish her memory include daughter, Bonnie Roark of Correctionville; two granddaughters, Rene (Jaret) Byers of Correctionville, and Rochelle (Steve) Kenworthy of Independence, MO; two great-grandchildren, Riley and Tyler Byers of Correctionville; two brothers-in-law, Beryl (Ramona) Schubert of Galva and Vance Schubert of Ida Grove; sister-in-law, Lorraine Bottjen of Anthon and many nieces and nephews.
