Funeral services for Vernon Johnson, age 85, of Galva, are pending at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.
Vernon passed away on Monday, February 03, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein.
Vernon Victor Johnson was born July 26, 1939 in Storm Lake, lowa to Victor and Bernice (Gries) Johnson. He graduated from Galva High School. Vernon joined the U.S. Air Force and Served for four years; two years active and two years in the reserves.
He was united in marriage to Mary Catherine Clausen. She passed away in 1977. He was married to Victoria Jean Kisicki on January 6, 1979 in Omaha, NE. They made their home in Galva.
Vernon worked at Asphalt Construction Company in Oregon, then moved back to Galva and worked at VT Industries in Holstein. He also worked for Harlan Else and sold Ag bags with and Jr. Else. After he retired, he bartended at the Lumber Inn, a job that he really loved.
Vernon enjoyed gardening, playing cribbage and 31, doing home renovation projects and camping. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Vernon was a member of the American Legion Dibbern Post #454 in Galva.
He is survived by his wife, Victoria; children, Jeff (Maureen) Johnson of Bradenton, FL, Sandi (Brad) Andresen of Galva, IA and Mike (Suzie) Mitchell of VA; grandchildren, Courtney (Austin) Tiefenthaler of Galva, IA, BJ (Kendra) Andresen of Galva, IA, Anna Smiley of Omaha, NE and Suzie Smiley of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren, Kiyanna Lewis, Oakley Tiefenthaler and Paisley Andresen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Shelly Gill; step-daughter, Tracie Smiley; brother, Larry Johnson and nephew, Larry Patrick.
