Virgil W. Colshan

May 9, 1933 — December 10, 2015

Virgil was born May 9, 1933, in Battle Creek, IA, son of William E. and Esther G. (Chisholm) Colshan. He graduated from Correctionville High School in 1951. He was drafted in the United States Army and served in Missouri, Japan, and Korea. During this time, he married his high school sweetheart, Ruby E. Sands, at the Post Chapel in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1953. After his military duty, he farmed near Lawton, IA, and later moved to Correctionville, IA, where he worked for Walter Harder for many years. In 1977, he moved to Cushing where he was employed until his retirement in 2002.

Virgil enjoyed many outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening with Ruby. He also enjoyed watching eagles and other wildlife around his home. When he was at the nursing home, Virgil took pleasure in sharing his eagle book with the other residents and staff. Virgil took delight in collecting coins and sharing them with Jim and Lana Cunningham.

Virgil is survived by his four sons, Larry (Carol) Colshan of Mount Pleasant, SC, Rick (June) Colshan of Forest City, IA, Randy (Yvonne) Colshan of Mapleton, IA, and Brian (Deb) Colshan of Cushing, IA, and ten grandchildren, Erin, Emily, Matthew, and Sarah; Derick; Kyle and Edward (EJ); Megan, Brianna, and Hannah.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Ruby.

The family of Virgil would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center and Care Initiatives Hospice, especially Barb.
