Virginia L. Meyer

January 28, 1922 — August 16, 2014

Virginia Haahr, daughter of Viggo and Sena (Hansen) Haahr was born on January 28, 1922 on the family farm north of Alta. Virginia was raised on the family farm and attended and graduated from Highview High School in 1939. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Meyer on June 1, 1941. To this union three children were born, Don, David and Janet. They farmed north of Alta for 34 years and retired and moved to Alta in 1978.

Virginia was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Alta where she belonged to the Martha Circle. She was a longtime member of both the Country Ramblers Club and a charter member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Alta V.F.W. Post #6172. Virginia enjoyed reading, baking, raising flowers, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and their families.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother, Stan Haahr.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three children, Don (Betty) Meyer of Sioux Falls, SD, David (Cindy) Meyer of Storm Lake, IA, and Janet (Jay) Hummel of Yankton, SD; six grandchildren, Lisa Lange of Sioux Falls, SD, Michael (Tracy) Meyer of Sioux Falls, SD, Ross (Katy) Meyer of Iowa City, IA, Cass (Matt) Loesche of Waterloo, IA, Tyler Hummel of Yankton, SD and Andrew Hummel of Yankton, SD; seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Kolb, Katherine Kolb, Christian Meyer, Brynlee Meyer, Emery Meyer, Kaden Loesche and Maddox Loesche; sisters-in-law, Francis Meyer of Pharr, TX, LaVerna Meyer of Wall Lake, IA and Billie Haahr of Tuscon, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
