Wilma Edna Louise (Rohlk) Hansen, 93, of Holstein, Iowa died Friday, December 25, 2015 at Brookdale Senior Living in Wayne, Nebraska where she had lived for the past two and half years.
Wilma was born March 23, 1922 in rural Holstein to Ernest and Carrie (Will) Rohlk. She was educated in Ida County country schools and graduated from Cushing High School in 1940. Following high school, she attended college in Storm Lake for teacher training and taught in rural country schools for seven years.
She married Rodney Hansen June 22, 1947 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cushing. They became members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in 1953 and the couple farmed for 10 years south of Holstein before moving into town. Wilma enjoyed her time teaching country school in a one-room school house and raising her children. Her hobbies included a love for baking, crocheting, sewing, gardening, and playing cards. She and Rodney enjoyed traveling throughout the 50 states, Europe, and the Caribbean. Wilma volunteered at Meals on Wheels, The Good Samaritan Center, and was actively involved in the Logan Handy Helpers in addition to many activities at her church. She and Rodney were charter members of the Lutheran Starlighters Couples club. They also enjoyed 50 years of monthly gatherings of their 500 card club. Most recently, Wilma took great pleasure in spending time with her six great-grandchildren during their weekly visits.
Survivors include her son Roderick Hansen (Gayle) of Buffalo Center, IA; daughters, Pam Corbin (Bob) of Lompoc, CA, Candi Schlines (Dennis) of Wayne, NE, Cindy Beckman (Dennis) of Wayne NE. Her surviving grandchildren include Nick Beckman (Katrina) of Wayne, NE; Kelcey Clover (Joe) of Wakefield, NE and and their children Eli, Dylanee, Paislee, and Ruthee; Corey Schlines (Amber) of Wayne, NE and their children Olivia and Emelia; Jamie Beckman of Tuscon, AZ; Rachel Hansen of Muscatine, IA; Roderick Hansen of Clive, IA, and cousins, Carol (Woodruff) Quigley of Omaha, NE, James Quigley of Bethesda, MD and Jill Quigley of Omaha, NE. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Violet (Lieber) Rohlk of Cushing, IA; seventeen nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Rodney; a brother Lloyd Rohlk, and cousin-in-law Jim Quigley.
