Winnie was born on June 16, 1925 in Cherokee, IA, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Peters) Rohlk. She was raised in the Holstein area and received her education in the Holstein Community School District. After graduation, Winnie moved to Los Angeles, CA and worked for two years at the phone company as a telephone operator. After two years, Winnie returned to the Holstein area and married Lowell Kuchel on August 1, 1946. They lived outside of Holstein on the family farm for 40 years and raised 3 children: Alan, Linda and Teresa. Winnie enjoyed playing cards with friends and neighbors and belonged to many card clubs and groups. She also enjoyed dancing, reading, playing video poker at the casino and was an avid fan of her “story” As the World Turns. She loved to entertain and cook. Winnie and Lowell enjoyed a competitive game of rummy every day. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell; her parents, Edward and Anna Rohlk; two sisters, Geri and Arlene; and a son-in-law, Fred. Survivors include a son, Alan of Holstein; daughters, Linda of Correctionville and Teresa of Iowa City; a sister, Lois Klotz of Holstein; 5 grandchildren, Jen and Mike Kerns of Anthon, Josh and Shannon Wright of Henderson, NV, Kelsey and Shane Bumsted of Solon, Hillary Blenner and her fiancé John Walsh of Holstein and Jami Blenner of Sioux Falls; and 4 great grandchildren Grant, Collin, Lisa and Nora. The family would like to thank the Char-Mac Assisted Living staff for taking such good care of Winnie.
