Winola was born on March 12, 1924 to John C. and Elsie (Dittmer) Wiese in Holstein, Iowa. She lived northwest of Holstein and graduated from Holstein High School in 1941 as the salutatorian of her class.
Winola was married to Wilber Wienert on April 14, 1945, and the couple was married for 61 years. To this union five children were born. She enjoyed staying at home raising her children in the home that she and Wilbur built. They lived in that home for almost 50 years.
Winola loved sewing quilt tops for church, cooking, baking, doing puzzles, planting flowers and gardening. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was a member of Ladies Aid and Women’s Circle. She was also a Girl Scout leader for seven years. She and Wilber started Wienert trucking in 1941.
Winola went to live at the Holstein Good Samaritan Society in July of 2004, where she enjoyed doing the spelling bee and ceramics. There she was the Valentine’s Day Queen in 2012.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilber in 2006; brother, Cliff and wife Phyllis Wiese; and brothers-in-law, Don Dutler, Vince Gottwalt, Lloyd and wife Geneva Wienert and Earl Wienert; sisters-in-law, Lanore Bubke and Helen Wienert; nephew, Cary Rusch; and nieces, Becky Wienert and Janice Fuentes.
Winola is survived by her sons, Jim (Betty) Wienert of Port Neches, TX, Bob Wienert of Louisburg, MO, George (Julie) Wienert of Beaumont, TX; daughters, Pat (Jerry) Cronin of Holstein, IA and Brenda (Dale) Schumacher of Ida Grove, IA; grandchildren, Kyle (Susan) Wienert, Eric Wienert, Scott (Kim) Wienert, Michele (Mark) Koppedryer, Shannon (Steve) Smith, Steve Cronin, Kevin Cronin, Crystal (Brian) Gilmore, Cassie (Nicholas) Georgopoulus, Dallas Schumacher, Tracey Schumacher, Ross Wienert, Ashley (Todd) Warren, Jessica (Michael) Mazzella; 13 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; sisters, Dorothy Dutler of Cedar Rapids, IA, Donna Gottwalt of Sartell, MN, Beverly Rusen of Orlando, FL, Shirley (Dan) Heilman of Logan, NM; brother-in-laws, Lester Wienert of Louisburg, MN and Glenn Bubke of Kingsley; and sister-in-law, Ardyce Wienert of Holstein.
