Wm. Earl Gutel, age 95, of Storm Lake, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Welcov Assisted Living of Alta. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church of Alta with the Pastor Kim A. Dewey officiating. Burial will be at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery of Storm Lake. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta.
Earl was born November 8, 1921 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Wm. T. and Bessie (Andrews) Gutel. He attended school at Truesdale and became a lifelong farmer.
On March 21, 1943, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Bonnichsen of Alta. They began a lifetime of farming together north of Storm Lake. They became the parents of two children, Victoria Lee and David Earl and celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Except for three years, Earl spent his entire life on the family farm north of Storm Lake where he farmed, shelled corn, did custom baling and raised livestock. He loved horses and other animals and tilling the soil.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Victoria Olson of Spencer, IA; and son, David (Linda) Gutel of Storm Lake, IA; grandchildren, D. Scott (Karin) Olson of Apple Valley, MN, Brian Olson of Laurens, IA, Amy (Dave) Huebner of Hawarden, IA, Heather (Andres) Torres of Omaha, NE and Brent Gutel of Storm Lake, IA; great-grandchildren, Thaddeus, Theron and Theanna Olson, Addison, Emma and Jayden Olson, Levi and Luke Huebner and Henry and Andy Torres.
Wm. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, William T. and Bessie Gutel; his wife, Marjorie Bonnichsen Gutel; brother-in-law, Vance Bonnichsen; sister-in-law Rebecca Bonnichsen and son-in-law, Leland Olson.
